I’m starting to really appreciate these older Impreza Outbacks, back when a wagon was a wagon buhrhhghhgg kids today and their bigly crossovers blarghhhh. Anyway, the baby blue on the light grey cladding works!

Utilitarian, they are.

outback sport. There still is an impreza outback its just called XV now.

I’ll take a 2.5RS wagon. The 2 tone paint ruins the Outback Sport for me.

There was also a Legacy Outback

It’s a fucking hatchback, not a wagon.

Yes there were many Impreza Outback Sports before they turned into the Crosstrek.
Like the Outback, they all had a raised suspension and cladding (which later became just a 2-tone paint job) but generally did not also have truckier tires like the Outback (and Crosstrek).
There was a 2-tone paint option on the 2012 Impreza hatchback that was not a Crosstrek. No raised suspension or cladding, just a 2-tone paint job.

Dr Subaruberg? Dr Zoidbergaru? I don’t even know what to think.

This I knew. My dear mother has seemingly only bought Legacy Outbacks for the last 20 years.

I don’t think the UK ever got the Impreza Outback Sport, only the Legacy. The XV is here, but I’ve seen one. Ever.

I had a 2002 version of this car and it was good up to 1 kid, then it was a bit too small. I really like driving the car. It handled like a softly sprung WRX, with about 50 less horse power. Eventually it got very unreliable and I didn’t trust it to reliably transport me and my family across the wilds of Nevada and Montana. So I bought a new Outback that is now on it’s second engine.

I’m pretty sure these were never in the UK. We’ve got the XV, but it’s not really an Impreza is it?

yup, impreza hatch with tiny lift and cladding. They are EVERYWHERE here. Can’t hide from them.

The Crosstrek is the exact same body shell as the Impreza. It’s just got extra cladding tacked on and a raised suspension. Which is exactly what the Outback Sport also was. Subaru just changed the name from Outback Sport to XV Crosstrek.
Crosstrek on the left, Impreza on the right.

Ok, this is where I’m going wrong. I have also never seen that body style of Impreza in the UK. Sure, according to Wikipedia it was sold over here, but I have never seen a regular ‘14 Impreza hatch on the road. As far as I was aware we went from this:
To this:
I thought the XV was just a little CUV all on it’s lonesome.

I like these too but they rust out bad in Michigan.

1992-2007 they were wagons. Note the rear windows and upright rear screen angle compared to the smaller triangular windows and angled rear screens from 2008+. There wasn’t a hatchback Impreza until 2008.

Had a 2004 for 8 years and 120k miles or so. Uncomfortable, noisy, leaked coolant, crap mileage for such a small car, playskool interior, but fun as hell to drive and absolutely unstoppable in bad weather. Always started even at -15F and never left me stranded. Unfortunately with the Takata grenade bag and newborn kiddo I needed something bigger/safer. Still got $4k on a trade in at a dealer - pretty ridiculous.
